Our Happy Pack Of Boarding Dogs - New Friends & Old Friends Together!

Our Happy Pack Of Boarding Dogs

New Friends & Old Friends Together!

The photo above is a great representation of the variety of boarding dogs that come to stay with us.  They come in all shapes and sizes!   Pictured (from top left to bottom right) are Rocket, Guinness, Dexter, Nora, Boscoe, Monty, River, Newman, Chico Jr., Beau, Ranger, Henry, Scout, and Jersey!

We provide a home like boarding environment with an emphasis on socialization, exercise, and play.   We provide individualized care and can accommodate all manners of special needs and diets.  Administering medications is not a problem and feeding routines are kept the same as they are at the dog's own home.  We ask that each client provide their dog's regular food and we follow their instructions accordingly.  In this group, we have some dogs that have medications or special foods.  Some get goat cheese on their kibble and one gets green beans and pumpkin!

It is important to our clients that they know that their dogs are being well cared for and are enjoying themselves whenever they are out of town.  And knowing this, our clients are able to relax and enjoy their vacation, or attend to business when they are on a business trip.  And every evening they can enjoy the daily photo album!   Click here to see today's album!

Max - The Regal Poodle

by Thom McKinney on 03/10/14

                                  Max - The Regal Poodle

Meet Max, a standard Poodle that stands tall against the skyline in the above photo!  Max is one of a number of poodles among our dog boarding clients.   Poodles are a breed with a long and distinguished history.   Many people consider them one of the "fancy" breeds.  But in fact, they are sporting dogs, much like Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and Portuguese Water dogs.  Have you ever watched one of the purebred dog shows on TV, like the Westminister Kennel Club or the AKC competitions, and seen a Poodle wearing one of those bizarre hairstyles that make them look like some strange beauty contestant?  And you wondered why in the world someone would give their dog such a silly haircut?   Well, there is actually a very good reason for those fancy hairdos.  The areas where the hair is very short is to prevent being caught on underwater debris, and the areas where the hair is long is to help keep vital organs and joints warm in cold water.

So the next time you see a Poodle with a fancy doo, don't laugh!  That dog is geared for sport!

In fact many of our Poodle boarding dogs, as well as Goldenoodles and Labradoodles, love to swim in our swimming pool.  To see Max and our other boarding dogs enjoying today's hikes and pool party time, just click on this link!  You can see other albums on our previous blog posts too!

Kirby The Circus Dog!

by Thom McKinney on 02/25/14

                                   Kirby The Circus Dog!

One of the best things about living in Tucson is the year round weather that makes swimming a daily activity- especially for dogs!  Our boarding dogs enjoy our afternoon pool party for the fun play and the swim time.  We also play a good round of tennis ball games and the dogs compete for chasing the balls.  The dogs jump and catch them mid-air and some of the dogs dive into the pool after them!

The dog pictured above is Kirby, a sweet lab-terrier mix, that might have missed his calling as a circus dog!  He is very acrobatic and can jump high into the air!   You can see more of Kirby and his dog friends having a good time around the pool by viewing our daily photo album!

More Labradoodle Talk

by Thom McKinney on 02/20/14

                                  More Labradoodle Talk

The above photo is of Enzo & Hank, two labradoodles that stay with us on a regular basis.  They are great examples of the variety in this breed.  Hank is chocolate in color and diminutive in size.  Enzo is above average in size and has blonde coloring.  Their temperament is also different.  Hank is social and playful but also quiet and initially more of an observer in new social settings and meeting new dogs.  Enzo, on the other hand, is very outgoing, playful and rambunctious and quickly initiates play with other dogs.

Many factors go into the composition of a dog's temperament.  I think part of what makes for the variety in the labradoodle's is the purposeful blending of two breeds - poodles and Labradors - and then the subsequent cross breeding of the resulting offspring.

But the greatest factor in any dog's temperament, in my opinion, is the amount and timing of socialization experience that a dog receives in it's formative stage from birth and during the first few months and first year of life.    An integral part of our services, is our dog socialization program.  You can learn more about this by visiting our website.  And you can enjoy seeing more pictures of Enzo, Hank, and our other boarding dogs enjoying their day in today's photo album!
